9.10.09 Hermosa 'Rocks'

Up about 7:30am for riding. Today was a shuttle. We drove to the end of the trail, left our car there and hitched a ride with Tony and the three bikes back to the trailhead. The trailhead and campsite were in the same location. It should be noted that the campsite was tucked away on a dirt road about 8 miles behind the Durango Mountain Resort. Our campsite was not a resort by any stretch with toilets to make even the most strong of stomach do the shimmy shake. Egghh. We shared the entire campground with just one other group of ATV-ridin' backwoods huntin' types.

On to the ride. A 21.5 mile jaunt along the Hermosa River. Damp wet morning. The trail started off as a mixed use for ATV, hoof, and two wheeled knobby tires. Soon into the ride a lone flyfisherman warned us of a horse convey 60 large just up ahead. We quickly caught up to them and trucked on through. The canyon winding double track gave us a few bridge passings then slowly turned into a fast rolling singletrack. A few short climbs at the end gave us some huffing and puffing to keep it from being too easy.

After a few days we now have an intimate understanding of our Town & Country and all its faults and have gained some insight as to why our tax dollars are paying for the fledgling company to stay afloat...its a piece of poo. We suspect that this model has only one warped brake disc pad on say, the front driver's side. We feel this way because there is a shaking violence during braking that rivals only that of space re-entry in a 1960's Apollo capsule!

Headed into downtown Durango for food, beer and football at a local establishment.
